Where to Glamp in the Catskills for a Fall Weekend

Four properties come up constantly when people ask where to glamp in the Catskills: two Postcard Cabins outposts, AutoCamp, and Camptown.

Design-Forward and Self-Catered: The Postcard Cabins

Postcard Cabins runs two outposts in the region, and the choice between them comes down to what's outside your door.

Eastern Catskills, in Catskill, NY, sits on 60 wooded acres about 2.5 hours from the city, five minutes from Kaaterskill Falls — the 260-foot double cascade that draws roughly 200,000 hikers a year and is worth the 400-plus stairs down. Each of the 56 tiny cabins has a queen bed or bunks, a kitchenette, a private fire pit, and nothing else. There's no restaurant on-site, which is the point: guests are expected to bring groceries and cook.

Western Catskills, in Roscoe, is the quieter of the two — 36 cabins on 70 acres near the Pepacton Reservoir and the trout streams around Livingston Manor. Same self-catering setup, same design language, fewer neighbors.

Both are now part of Marriott's Outdoor Collection, so Bonvoy points work here if that matters to your travel calculus.

Full-Service, With a Kitchen That Isn't Yours: AutoCamp and Camptown

AutoCamp Catskills, near Saugerties, puts guests in Airstreams, cabins, or canvas tents across 37 acres, with a central Clubhouse that runs a real kitchen, a bar, and a general store. It's ten minutes from Woodstock, close enough for a dinner out, but the property itself has a hot tub, bikes, and weekly live music if you'd rather not leave.

Camptown Catskills, in Leeds, is the most hotel-like of the four: a renovated 1930s motor lodge with 24 rooms plus 26 stand-alone cabins, a saltwater pool, an outdoor sauna, and Casa Susanna, a Jaliscan restaurant that's become a destination in its own right. This is the pick if you want to unpack once and not think about meals again.

Matching the Property to the Weekend

If you want to cook, disappear, and not see another guest until checkout, the Postcard Cabins outposts are built for exactly that — pick Eastern for waterfall access, Western for quiet. If you want a kitchen you don't have to staff and a reason to get dressed for dinner, AutoCamp or Camptown will do more of the work. Camptown edges out AutoCamp for a group that wants a proper restaurant on property; AutoCamp edges out Camptown if a hot tub and Airstream sleeping matter more than a pool.

The One Property With the Paperwork to Back Up "Sustainable"

We checked all four of the above against GATHER's standard for stays we'll call sustainable: a Virtuoso or Fora preferred partnership, backed by a public impact report. Unfortunately, published data could not be found…yet.

A field of wildflowers

One nearby property does meet the mark. Wildflower Farms, Auberge Resorts Collection, in Gardiner, is Virtuoso-affiliated and backs it up: Energy Star–certified construction, participation in a community solar program, and 54 of its 141 acres — 33 of them farmland — held in a conservation easement. It's a genuine weekend upgrade over the four above, not a like-for-like swap, and it sits at a different price point. We're listing it on its own rather than forcing it into a tier structure it doesn't belong in.

We don't yet have an Affordable or Premium pick that meets the same bar in this region. Rather than list something that looked right without the paperwork behind it, we're leaving those two blank for now.
