One Big Trip vs. Five Small Ones — The 2026 Travel Shift

One Big Trip Era
Travel companies are calling 2026 the start of the "one big trip" era. Going's State of Travel 2026 report, cited by Travel + Leisure, found that most travelers are now taking fewer trips overall, but investing more into each one — choosing a single, considered journey over several smaller, forgettable ones.
It's a shift away from the idea that more travel automatically means a fuller life. A long weekend squeezed between work obligations rarely gives you what you actually needed from the trip — deep rest, a real change of pace, time enough to stop counting the days you have left. One well-built trip, planned around what you actually want the year to hold, tends to deliver more than three rushed ones back to back.
This is where private trip planning earns its place. Building one significant trip well means thinking further than flights and hotel dates. It means figuring out where a few days of guided hiking fits next to a few days of doing absolutely nothing, where the premium stay is worth the splurge and where a simpler option serves you just as well, and how to sequence a longer trip so it doesn't feel like a checklist of destinations stitched together.
I build these trips one traveler at a time. Not a template, not a package — a plan built around the specific shape of your year and what you're actually craving from it. If 2026 is the year you take one trip instead of three, I'd rather help you make it the right one than watch you spend another few weekends on quick escapes that don't quite land.
Rest is better shared, not earned.
