How to Use Your Indy Pass: A Northeast Road Trip Itinerary

If the pass is already sitting in your account, the hard part is over. What's left is the good part: deciding which two mountains to spend your two days at, and building a route around them that doesn't waste a single one of them driving in circles.

Here's a four-day frame for the Vermont-to-New Hampshire stretch.

Day one, check the blackout calendar first. If you bought the Base Pass, a handful of dates around the holidays, MLK weekend, and Presidents' weekend are off-limits this season; the Indy+ skips that restriction entirely. Once your dates are clear, start at Saskadena Six in Woodstock, Vermont, a small, family-run hill attached to The Woodstock Inn & Resort, where the same fireplace has been warming skiers for generations. Redeem a day, then stay the night.

Day two, drive north to Bolton Valley. It still runs night skiing on a single lodge, no base village, no line for a nine-dollar hot chocolate. Base yourself twenty minutes away at The Lodge at Spruce Peak in Stowe, where the village runs on geothermal heat and fourteen straight years of Audubon sustainable-community certification back up the claim.

Days three and four, cross into New Hampshire. Some Indy partners here, Pat's Peak among them, require advance reservations even with a redeemed day, so book those before you leave, not after you arrive. Cannon Mountain's tram is a piece of ski history in its own right; Waterville Valley's terrain is wide enough to let a group split up and regroup without anyone waiting around.

None of this is complicated. It's a pass, a car, and four mountains that would rather have your two days than your sixty-dollar cheeseburger. The only real decision left is who's in the passenger seat.

That's the part a good travel advisor actually helps with, not the lift tickets, you've got those handled, but the sequencing: which mountains pair well on a drive, which lodging nights are worth the splurge, how many days is enough before the trip starts feeling like a commute.
